One could go on and on with HTML tags for frames, imagemapping for linking, etc. However, most people use a web editor today to build web pages. While the web editor helps, being able to source a page (Source, or Page Source, under View on the menubar of most web browsers) and read the HTML directly can be helpful. Web editors, such as DreamWeaver (possibly the leading web editor on the market currently), can be very expensive. SeaMonkey is open source web editing software that can help you see how a web editor translates HTML into a web page with a minimum of direct tag scripting on your part.

Upon launching a working copy of SeaMonkey, go to Window on the Menubar and down to Composer. You should recognize a good many of the tools as accomplishing HTML tasks for you with a click of a button, instead of scripting the HTML directly.
